Services Excluded from Medicare
We often heard people talking about the benefits that Medicare offers, but what about services that are not covered or excluded from Medicare? Medicare covers most of the health care services but some services excluded include but are not limited to (listed below)
- Alternative medicine, including acupuncture and chiropractic services, except when one or more bones of the spine are out of position.
- Care received outside of the United States
- Cosmetic surgery
- Dental
- Hearing Aids
- Personal care such as bathing, eating, and dressing when it is the only services you need
- Custodial care as housekeeping, laundry, and meal preparation is the only care you need
- Nursing home care or Long-Term Care, except Skill Nursing Facility
- Non-medical services, including a private hospital room, television, and telephone, cancel or missed appointments, and copy of X-rays
- Non-Emergency Transportation
- Certain preventive services
- Vision care such as eyeglasses/fitting eyeglasses but glasses after cataract surgery.
Medicare beneficiaries are responsible for the full cost if they received services that Medicare does not cover. Medicare Advantage will have one or some of this coverage if you join them, check with your plan to see if there are any additional services are offered. Medicare Supplement will not cover anything that is excluded from Medicare.
